One of the projects of the German dictator Adolf Hitler was to provide the German people with a simple and cheap car so that people could get around and go on vacation. To carry out this project he enlisted the engineer Ferdinand Porsche to design the vehicle and set up a factory in the small town of Fallerleben in the county of Schloss Wolfsburg where he also built a city for workers that has since been known as Wolfsburg.
Hitler gave the vehicle the name KdF-Wagen (Kraft durch Freude = strength through joy) although from the beginning people called it Volkswagen (People's Car) or even, given its appearance, Käfer (beetle).
When WW2 exploded, the Wolfsburg factory concentrated on the production of the military models Kübelwagen and Schwimmwagen, producing few units of the beetle.
The beetle mounted an air-cooled engine which made it ideal for use in hot climates, this led to the use of some units of this model by the Afrika korps forces, to which special tires for sand and open roof were mounted.
This kit features one of these Afrika korps beetles.
This kit is from the “Easy assembly kits” series and consists of a reduced number of parts that are easily assembled obtaining a great result. The kit include decals and glass but does not include paint or glue.
